New Jersey restaurant Sagami suddenly closes after owner’s death – NBC10 Philadelphia

Beloved Collingswood, New Jersey restaurant Sagami has closed for the time being following the passing of one of its owners.

The authentic Japanese restaurant announced the closure on its website and placed a sign on its front door to warn customers.

The sudden closure followed the death of co-owner Chizuko Fukuyoshi of Haddonfield on July 15. She was 79.

Kain-Murphy Funeral Services posted a message about Fukuyoshi’s death, saying her life revolved around Sagami and her clients.

The funeral home says donations can be made in its name to the ASPCA. To donate, click here.

Sagami was recognized as a semifinalist for Best Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 2017 and 2019. Chef Shigeru Fukuyoshi was a semifinalist in the Best Chef category in 2023.
