North Carolina Democratic Reps Respond to Calls for Biden to Withdraw

(WGHP) — Amid calls for President Biden to step aside before the Democratic National Convention in August and make way for a new Democratic nominee, local Democratic delegates are vowing to follow the party’s lead.

FOX8 spoke to three local representatives on Friday and they all said they support Biden unless he decides to withdraw from the race.

There are growing calls nationally for Biden to be removed from office amid ongoing concerns about his health, mental acuity and fitness to serve after the final presidential debate.

For local delegates representing North Carolina at the DNC, the question is who can beat former President Donald Trump in November. All three FOX8 spoke to agreed it’s Biden until he decides it’s not.

“We have two very clear differences and two very different track records that show President Biden is willing to step up and commit to North Carolina families,” said Davidson County Representative JacQuez Johnson.

“I am committed to being a Biden-Harris representative … As long as he is at the top of the ticket, that is who I support,” said Rep. Pricey Harrison.

Both say they would also support Kamala Harris if she were the nominee.

Rep. Beverly Bard said she supports Biden until he steps aside. She praised him for his service and said she wanted a better world for her children and grandchildren.
