La Crosse Loggers triumph over Minot Hot Tots, 8-4

LA CROSSE, WI – In front of a crowd of 2,704 at Copeland Park, the La Crosse Loggers posted an 8-4 victory over the Minot Hot Tots, a strong performance that helped them bounce back.

Starting pitcher Kassius Thomas (Stanford) led the Loggers in throwing five solid innings, giving up just one run on six hits and retiring four batters.

Minot starting pitcher Ashton Jenkins (Washburn), on the other hand, struggled, lasting just one inning and allowing six runs and six hits.

The Loggers began their scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Luke Anderson (BYU) hit an RBI single to left field, followed by RJ Hamilton (Vanderbilt) who drove in two more runs with a single to center, making it 3-0.

The Loggers extended their lead in the second inning with a three-run homerun by Matt Muira (Hawaii) and an RBI single by Hamilton to make it 7-0.

Minot responded in the third inning with an RBI single by Anthony Potestio (Cal San Diego).

La Crosse answered in the third inning when Cooper Brass (New Mexico) singled in Matt Miura to right, extending the lead to 8-1.

In the eighth inning, the Hot Tots scored two runs on an RBI double by Adam Berghult (Dallas Baptist), who later scored on an error by Logger pitcher Booby McDonough (William and Mary), making it 8-3.

Minot scored another run in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by Potestio, which drove in Xavier Esquer, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

With the win, the Loggers improve their record to 28-22, while the Hot Tots move to 18-33. The Loggers now head to Witter Field to take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
