Amateur Baseball Review: Bulldfrogs Go Deep on Rockets – West Central Tribune

RAYMOND — The Bird Island Bullfrogs definitely brought their heavy hitters to Lilleberg Field on Friday night and pulled out a big win as a result.

Bird Island hit four home runs in a 10-2 Corn Belt League victory over the Raymond Rockets.

The win moves Bird Island into first place in the league with an 11-2 record, while Raymond falls to 10-3.

Jordan Sagedahl hit two home runs and also threw eight innings on the mound for the win. Dylan Gass hit a home run and drove in four runs and Shawn Dollerschell also hit a deep hit for the Bullfrogs.

On the mound, Sagedahl struck out nine and walked three. He allowed five hits and two earned runs. At the plate, the former South Dakota State star was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Logan Swan went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Bird Island.

Caleb Ditmarson was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rockets.

Raymond hosts Granite Falls at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the final Corn Belt game before the playoffs. Bird Island plays at Marshall at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Patrick Courtney threw seven shutout innings, struck out nine, walked two and allowed two hits to lead the Willmar Rails past the Granite Falls Kilowatts at Richter Field in Granite Falls.

Jack Gaumgart went 2-for-4, Ashton Greborgy was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Gunnar Banks went 1-for-3 with a double hit-by-pitch for the Rails, who are 5-8 in the Corn Belt League.

Granite Falls scored once in the ninth inning. Brady Sneller went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Kilowatts, who are also 5-8 in the regular season.

Willmar closes the regular season on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Wabasso.

The Atwater Chuckers scored in the ninth inning to break the 2-2 tie, defeating the Payensville Pirates at Kingery Field in Atwater.

Jordan Olson was 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly for the Chuckers. Kobe Holtz went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and a hit-by-pitch. Jack Peterson was 1-for-3. David Kingery went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Starbuck stayed alive in the County Line League playoffs by eliminating New London-Spicer at Marthaler Park in Glenwood.

Austin Ver Steeg earned the pitching win. He threw six scoreless innings, struck out eight and walked three. He allowed one hit. Darion Alexander earned the save, throwing three innings and giving up three hits. He struck out three.

Alexander went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Austin Friese went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Stars.

Joey Hyde threw a five-hitter to lead the Litchfield Blues to a victory over Buffalo at Optimist Park in Litchfield.

Buffalo, which led the North Star League, is now 12-3. Litchfield is now 9-6.

Litchfield hosts reigning Class C state champion Maple Lake on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Optimist Park.

Elrosa came back in the eighth inning to defeat New Munich in the first round of the Stearns County League North Division playoffs at Elrosa.

Ethan Vogt got the pitching win in relief of Will Van Beck. Payton Van Beck picked up the save.

The winner will play the winner of Spring Hill/Greenwald on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 in Spring Hill. The losers will play on Sunday at 14:30 in Spring Hill.
