Eoline McCrone 1921-2024 | News, Sports, Jobs

SILVER SPRING, Md. — On Friday, June 21, 2024, Eoline McCrone died peacefully at the age of 103, in the home of her daughter, Nancy McCrone.

She was born in Monessen, Pa., the eldest child of Gertrude and Harry Newhouse. She and her husband Mark, who preceded her in death, moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1992, to be near their children and grandchildren. They lived there for over 30 years.

She was the beloved mother of Terry McCrone Murray, Richard McCrone, Nancy McCrone, and the late Jeffrey and Jonathan McCrone. She left six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Eoline valued education, receiving her bachelor’s degree from Youngstown University and her master’s degree from Kent State University, both while raising her five children. She focused on reading as the foundation of education.

Her long career as an elementary teacher continued after moving to Silver Spring. She was one of the oldest substitute teachers in MCPS, working into her 90s.

She valued her friends in the Leisure World Women’s Club and was an active member of the Interfaith Chapel. She felt that she lived a very blessed life and was always generous in her support of various charities.

A memorial celebration of her life is planned for 11 am Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at Colesville Presbyterian Church, 12800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, you can donate in Eoline’s name to The National Park Foundation, https://give.nationalparks.org; or to Hospice of Montgomery and Prince Georges County,
