Concerns over flash flooding increase over the weekend

A very active weekend of weather is in the works for most of New Mexico. Storms will generally drift south and southwest as they develop early this afternoon. Colliding outflow boundaries later this afternoon and evening will bring increased rain chances to lower elevations and valleys. Storms are capable of producing very heavy rainfall. A Flood Alert is also in effect for much of New Mexico this weekend. Fire scar flash flooding will be the biggest concern this weekend, but any strong thunderstorms could also produce heavy rainfall and flash flooding elsewhere.

Monday will likely be another active afternoon as temperatures will be cooler across New Mexico. We will see some drier air move in by the middle of next week, but thunderstorms will continue to develop across parts of New Mexico each afternoon.
