Neil Armstrong messed up his first words about the moon? Remember the Apollo 11 moon landing?

English has no handy term for what the French call esprit de l’escalier: the “spirit of the stairs”, clever remarks that only occur to you when it’s too late to say them. If English had such an expression, we could apply it to the words of Neil Armstrong, who had the misfortune to mispronounce his scripted line during one of the most watched live broadcasts in TV history. Instead of saying “that’s one small step for a “That’s one giant leap for mankind,” said Armstrong, “that’s one small step for man.” This quote later became one of the most famous in the English language.
