Letter: Senator Hoeven notes calls for safety at Highway 2 intersection – Grand Forks Herald

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: The following letter was sent by U.S. Senator John Hoeven, R-N.D., to Ron Henke, director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation, regarding a Highway 2 intersection west of Grand Forks.

Director Henke,

I am writing to express my support for addressing safety concerns on U.S. Highway 2 and County Road 5 in Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

As you know, traffic accidents at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and County Road 5 have brought increased attention to the safety issues at this intersection. This has led to calls from the community for improvements that will increase the safety of the traveling public. While the state ultimately determines what projects are prioritized and where federal funds are allocated, I would encourage you to take the public’s concerns about this intersection seriously.

Please know that through my role on the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Committee, I will continue to work to ensure that the state has the federal resources needed to continue safety improvements throughout the state. As a result of the annual budget process and legislation passed by Congress, the state of North Dakota has seen significantly increased federal funding from transportation improvement formula funds in recent years, and I would encourage the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) to utilize the federal resources that have been provided and are currently available to prioritize the necessary safety improvements at this intersection.

I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to the opportunity to work with the county and NDDOT to help improve the safety conditions at this intersection. Please keep me informed and feel free to contact my office with any updates you may have.

Honestly,

Senator John Hoeven
