TODAY IS THE DAY Hung Cao was supposed to debate, but he doesn’t “because he’s trying to hide from Virginia voters”

From Senator Tim Kaine’s re-election campaign:

TODAY IS THE DAY Hung Cao was supposed to debate

Richmond, VA – Today, Senator Tim Kaine and Hung Cao were supposed to face Virginians on the debate stage. Instead, Hung Cao refused to commit to the Virginia Bar Association debate, a long-standing tradition in Virginia politics.

Senator Kaine promised to participate in the debate (and two others) in June, but the VBA had to cancel today’s debate because it was “unable to obtain a timely commitment from the CBA campaign to participate.”

“Hung Cao has not committed to any Senate debates so far as he tries to hide from Virginia voters,” said Michael Beyer, communications director for Senator Kaine’s campaign. “From supporting state legislation that would ban abortion to wanting to gut the Affordable Care Act to opposing legislation that would lower prescription drug prices, Hung Cao is too extreme for Virginians and won’t answer questions about his platform.”

With his opponent withdrawing from the traditional first debate of the campaign season, Sen. Kaine will be in Staunton and Waynesboro campaigning and visiting local businesses to discuss his support for small businesses in the U.S. Senate. Cao has insulted a Staunton newspaper by calling it a “podunk local.”
