Not everyone in traffic adheres to the rules in the same safe or polite manner. That is why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has drawn up tips to prevent aggression in traffic.

It tells drivers to move aside and let the other driver pass to avoid a confrontation, to give speeding drivers space to avoid a collision, to pay close attention to their surroundings to avoid an unsafe driver, and to call 911 if someone is harassing them.

If you experience aggression in traffic, you are advised to pull over and take deep breaths until you have calmed down.
