Zoo Crew and Pitt to Host Basketball Tournament on Saturday

If you have plans for Saturday, come to the Petersen Events Center.

On Saturday, Pitt will host the first round of games in The Basketball Tournament, a $1 million winner-takes-all tournament. Pitt has an alumni team competing in the event, called the “Zoo Crew.” Here’s everything you need to know about the Pittsburgh regional for the 64-team tournament.

Dustin Sleva (Shippensburg U)

Sleva is the only non-Pitt player on the list. The Pittsburgh native played for Montour High School and then went on to play for Shippensburg in college. Since then, he has played professional basketball for six years, starting in France, playing in Germany and last year playing in Spain. Sleva averaged 8.5 points per game last year for UCAM Murcia. He has had four professional seasons with over 40% shooting.

*NOTE: Jamarius Burton was announced as a member of the Zoo Crew roster months ago, but was removed from the roster after undergoing shoulder surgery earlier this spring.

SCHEME

Four games will be played on July 20, the opening day of the regional competition in Pittsburgh.

Game 1: 1:00 PM — Dubois Dream vs. Happy Valley Hoopers

Game 2: 3:00 PM — Best Virginia vs. Brotherly Love Pro Am Foundation

Game 3: 6:00pm — Stars of Storrs vs. Herkimer Originals

Game 4: 8:00pm — Zoo Crew vs. Millions of dollars worth of game

The second round of matches will take place on Monday, July 22. The winners of Match 1 and Match 3 will play each other, while the winners of Match 2 and Match 4 will play each other.
