Former police officer accused of vandalizing Tennessee vice mayor’s home with Vienna sausages

JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WATE) — A former Jacksboro, Tennessee police officer is facing vandalism charges after allegedly throwing cans of Vienna sausages at the home of Jacksboro’s deputy mayor earlier this month.

A Campbell County District Court affidavit states that the Jacksboro vice mayor reported to a Campbell County sheriff’s deputy that he was in bed when he heard “several loud bangs” outside his home.

The deputy prosecutor noted in his statement that he saw two broken windows on the side of the road and that there were cans of Vienna sausage in the driveway that had been run over.

During the investigation, the deputy sheriff noticed that one of the cans of sausage was a brand only sold at Walmart.

When the officer arrived at Walmart, he spoke with a cashier who remembered throwing away a receipt from the night before. The receipt and surveillance footage confirmed that the person who had purchased a large quantity of Vienna sausages was former Jacksboro police officer Joseph Weaver, the affidavit said.

According to the report, Weaver then drove to the deputy mayor’s house and told the group he was with to follow him. He then went to the house with the cans of Vienna sausages and threw them at the house.

The deputy wrote that he spoke with Weaver, who was solely responsible for the incident. Weaver is charged with vandalism over $2,500 and theft under $1,000, according to an arrest warrant.

People who were with Weaver that night say they had been drinking and became angry about the incident, which led to Weaver resigning from the Jacksboro Police Department. He bought the sausages and then vandalized the deputy mayor’s house.
