Three people were killed in a crash in upstate New York on Friday.

On July 19 at approximately 4:50 p.m., New York State Police responded to a head-on collision between two vehicles on eastbound I-86 in the town of Chemung, Chemung County.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Nissan Maxima driven by a 36-year-old man traveling westbound on I-86 crossed the median and struck a 2015 Acura RDX traveling eastbound. The Acura had two occupants: an 18-year-old male driver and a 44-year-old woman.

All three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of those involved were not immediately released.

New York State Police received assistance from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Department of Transportation, the Chemung Fire Department, Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services and the Wellsburg Fire Department.

The investigation is still ongoing.
