Summary: MOT Senior softball team among regional winners

MOT opened the Senior League softball East Regional with a 6-1 victory over Stroudsburg, Pa. on Saturday.

The game was the first of four Mid-Atlantic pool games that the Delaware state champions will play in the nine-team tournament held in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The Middletown team has two games scheduled for Sunday, playing New York at 1 p.m. and New Jersey at 6 p.m.

The Eastern champion earns a place in the Senior League World Series played in Lower Sussex.

Junior competition

Lower Sussex 13, Rhode Island 1: The Delaware state champions won their second straight game in the East Regional on Saturday.

Lower Sussex is now 2-2 in the tournament being played in Orange, Connecticut.

The Sussex County team has two games left in the group stage and will face New York (0-3) on Sunday at 9:30 am.

Laurel 10, Maryland 0: Sussex County recorded a shutout victory on the first day of the East Regional in DuBois, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Laurel plays its next game against Connecticut on Sunday at 2 p.m. in an 11-team, double-elimination tournament.

The Eastern champion will earn a spot in the World Series in Taylor, Michigan.
