Virginia Tech basketball 4-star commit has impressive touch around the basket

Recruiting for the Class of 2025 is off to a great start for Virginia Tech and head coach Mike Young. So far, the Hokies have addressed frontcourt needs with commitments from Christian Gurdak and Sin’Cere Jones.

Jones was the first to commit on June 16, and the Portsmouth, Virginia native is a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward who is a three-star athletic player who can score around the basket. Still, the biggest addition to the class for Young came on July 2 when Gurdak, a four-star Top 100 player according to 247Sports out of Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C., committed to Virginia Tech, and his skills have been on display recently.

It is vital to have a big man in college basketball in this day and age that can score in multiple ways and Gurdak is someone who can do that. His moves around the basket are below and you can see that he can hurt defenses in multiple ways.

Gurdak has a nice fadeaway jumper that can create space, he can make some moves and finish smaller players while knocking down an elbow jumper off a pick and roll. He’s also a tough body to keep off the offensive glass. He definitely has a nice touch around the basket.

When Gurdak decided to attend Virginia Tech over Notre Dame, he said the Hokies had been recruiting him since he was 14 years old. What sets him apart from other players in his class is his ability to pass out of a double team, see the floor and keep the ball moving on the offensive end when his shot isn’t available. The finishing touches above are those of a player who has worked extremely hard on his game and knows where to be on both ends of the court to make an impact. Virginia Tech fans should be excited about Gurdak’s future in Blacksburg starting next season.
