Obituary for Virginia Tyler | July 20, 2024

Mrs. Virginia Miles Powers Tyler, 90, of Coward, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Tyler was born October 1, 1933 in Florence County, daughter of the late Luther and Minnie Miles. She was a member of the Coward Pentecostal Holiness Church and enjoyed the Women’s Aid. She was a seamstress for Wentworth for over 25 years. Mrs. Tyler was very cheerful, strong-willed, and enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. She loved traveling to the mountains with her best friend, Mamie, shopping and bringing back quilts.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce P. (Samuel) Singletary of Effingham, her son-in-law, Walter V. “Binky” Grimsley of Coward, her grandchildren, Timothy Vance Grimsley and Chris Grimsley, her brother, William “Bubba” (Kat) Miles of Coward, her sister, Peggy Miles of Scranton, her great-grandchildren, Jamie (Daniel) Pasker, Ashley Yarborough, Austin Grimsley, Bailey Grimsley, Matthew Grimsley and Michael Grimsley, her great-great-grandchild, Emma Grimsley, her best friend, Mamie Wilkes.

Mrs. Tyler was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Powers Grimsley; sons, Billy Laverne Powers and David Laverne Powers; grandsons, James Ricky Yarborough; first husband, Laverne Powers; sisters, Myrtie Bell Miles and Dalphine Collins.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Hicks Cemetery. Visitation will follow.
