UFC Vegas 94 Results: Winners and Losers

The UFC is at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas for tonight’s UFC Vegas 94 fight card on ESPN. The main event pits former UFC strawweight title challenger Amanda Lemos against Virna Jandiroba in a 115-pound bout. The evening’s co-headlining matchup pits Steve Garcia against SeungWoo Choi in a featherweight bout. The main card for tonight’s UFC Fight Night event begins at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN, following prelims on ESPN2 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Lemos, a former UFC strawweight title challenger, enters this weekend’s card as the No. 3 fighter in the official UFC strawweight rankings. Her opponent, former Invicta FC strawweight titleholder Jandiroba, is ranked No. 5 in the UFC’s 115-pound weight class.

Lemos rebounded from her August 2023 loss to women’s strawweight champion Zhang Weili with a “Fight of the Night” bonus decision win over Mackenzie Dern in February. Jandiroba is on a three-fight winning streak. Her most recent win came in March when she defeated Loopy Godinez via decision.

The co-main event between Garcia and Choi was moved to that spot when the evening’s original co-headliner, Brad Tavares vs. JunYong Park, was canceled after Park was medically cleared to compete in the event following Friday’s weigh-ins.

Garcia is on a three-fight winning streak, most recently beating Melquizael Costa by knockout in December. Choi ended a three-fight losing streak in August 2023 with a points win over Jarno Errens. He has not fought since that win.

Also on the main card, No. 14-ranked UFC flyweight Cory Durden will attempt to stay in the top 15 of the 125-pound division when he meets Bruno Silva, who is hoping to break into the rankings. Durden is coming off a submission loss in December that ended a four-fight winning streak. Silva is on a three-fight winning streak with three finishes and three “Performance of the Night” bonuses.

UFC Vegas 94 results, winners and losers, bonus winners and official scorecards will be updated live throughout tonight’s fight schedule.

Winners of UFC Vegas 94

Dooho Choi: Dooho Choi looked great on Saturday night. His career was put on hold in 2019 when he lost three fights due to mandatory military service. Choi returned to action in February 2023 and lost a majority decision to Kyle Nelson. He was out of action until Saturday when he faced Bill Algeo at UFC Vegas 94.

Choi, known for his flashy performances, surprised fans and Algeo by making three submission attempts in the first round. Perhaps the first round, which was heavy on wrestling, was part of the plan to make Algeo believe that Choi would not strike on Saturday. If so, the plan worked well, as Choi finished the fight with a left hook that appeared to hurt Algeo and ended the fight.

It was the first win for the 33-year-old Choi since knocking out Thiago Tavares in July 2016.

Hyder Amil vs. JeongYeong Lee: These two went at it early, with Hyder Amil getting the best of the action in a slugfest with zero defense. After Amil injured JeongYeong Lee, he unleashed a flurry of punches that the commentary team estimated totaled 38 punches. That number would have been higher had referee Mark Smith not stepped in to stop the fight at the 1:05 mark of round 1. When the final stats were tallied, Amil landed 42 of 63 significant punches while Lee landed four of 10.

For fans of punches and action, the UFC Vegas 94 fight program kicked off with impressive violence.

Cody Gibson: Cody Gibson ended a two-fight losing streak in style on Saturday. The 36-year-old, who is making his second appearance in the UFC, used his size and pressure to make life difficult for Brian Kelleher. Not only did Gibson perform well from distance, he also landed a slick elbow in the clinch just before the fight went to the mat, where Gibson took the submission win.

Miranda Maverick: Miranda Maverick was hoping to make a statement at UFC Vegas 94. The 27-year-old played well against her replacement Dione Barbosa, who was replaced in the final round. She used a heavy ground game to gain control time on the mat, but the result, a points victory, was not the statement Maverick had hoped to make as she struggled with her opponent’s distance management early on.

Maverick entered UFC Vegas 94 outside the top 15. I’m not sure this win, her third in a row, was enough to get her into the rankings when they’re updated next week.

On the positive side, Maverick is a very coachable fighter and should continue to improve as her experience increases.

Trey Ogden: Trey Ogden couldn’t handle Loik Radzhabov’s pressure or power well. Luckily, Radzhabov had no answer to Ogden’s takedowns and ground control.

Ogden was poised and calm on the mat and could easily control Radzhabov while looking for chances or creating opportunities for submissions.

Ogden’s lack of punch and defense are major drawbacks for him.

Thomas Petersen: Thomas Petersen is a wrestler, but he and his team seemed to notice that the way to victory against Mohammed Usman was to use pressure and volume on the feet and execute takedowns when they were open. Usman was clearly uncomfortable when Petersen landed his punches. With Usman worried about the punches, Petersen easily landed a takedown in the second stanza, but he couldn’t do much on the ground.

If there was one negative for Petersen, who won 30-27 in this heavyweight contest, it was that he could have been more aggressive in the third round.

Losers UFC Vegas 94

Bill Algeo: Bill Algeo lost a second straight fight on Saturday by strikes when Dooho Choi knocked him out in the second round. Algeo appeared unprepared for Choi’s first-round struggles.

The finish of this fight was strange, as the left hook that ended the fight did not seem devastating at first, but after a short pause Algeo dropped to the mat and covered himself. There could be an injury related to the decisive blow.

Brian Kelleher: Brian Kelleher’s losing streak was extended to four fights with a submission loss at UFC Vegas. Kelleher struggled in his short matchup with Cody Gibson’s height and pressure.

All four of Kelleher’s recent losses came by stoppage. His most recent victory was a 2022 decision win over Kevin Croom, who is no longer with the UFC.

Dione Barbosa: Dione Barbosa started off well against Miranda Maverick, using her kickboxing to keep Maverick from finding her range. But once Maverick adjusted, Barbosa struggled, especially on the mat, where Maverick took control of the fight.

Loik Radzhabov: Loik Radzhabov did well when he was able to keep the fight on his feet and use his pressure and power to hit Trey Ogden. The problem for Radzhabov was that he spent way too much time on the mat after Ogden’s takedowns.

If Radzhabov wants to be successful in the UFC, he needs to improve his takedown defense and defensive wrestling.

Mohammed Usman: Mohammed Usman looks good when he leads the dance. However, when his opponent lands punches, he backs off without countering. Usman doesn’t seem comfortable with hitting or dealing with pressure. What makes it worse is that Usman’s defense wasn’t great as he kept his hands low, allowing Petersen to easily get over and score.

Usman would be better off dropping down a level and getting comfortable with MMA punches, but at 35, that’s probably not the case.
