Despite Clinton receiving more votes (65,853,514 or 48.2%) compared to Trump (62,984,828 votes 46.1%), Trump managed to secure the presidency through the Electoral College. Key states that Trump won were Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, while Clinton won states such as California, New York and Illinois. Initially, Trump won 306 electoral votes and Clinton 232, but seven electoral votes changed this to 304 for Trump and 227 for Clinton.
