Zoo Crew Advances to Best Virginia

Backyard Brawl is coming to TBT.

Zoo Crew, Pitt’s alumni team, defeated Million $ Worth of Game to advance to the second round, where they will face Best Virginia, WVU’s alumni team. Best Virginia and Zoo Crew will play Monday at 8 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center. The game will be broadcast live on TBT Live.

Zoo Crew was cruising to a second-half run through the Million $ Worth of Game on Saturday. Former Pitt guard Jamel Artis hit a free throw to put the scoring in the Elam Ending and help Zoo Crew escape.

Best Virginia played No. 6 Brotherly Love earlier on Saturday, 94-69. The former WVU players had already considered letting Pitt play in the TBT after they won.

“It’s kind of how (TBT) set up the bracket on purpose. I’m from West Virginia, so I take it a little more personally,” said top Virginia HC/GM Chase Harler. “Esa (Ahmad) and I played against them in college and I don’t think I ever lost to Pitt. I hope if they win, I keep that tradition going.”

Best Virginia Talks Potential Backyard Brawl Matchup in TBT

The TBT Championship will take place in Philadelphia with the final four teams, and will take place on August 2-4.

This is the first time since 2020 that Best Virginia will not host its own regional, which has been played in Charleston and Wheeling the past three summers. Zoo Crew will have the honor of hosting their regional this week at the Petersen Events Center from July 20-24.

The basketball tournament features 64 teams and the winning team wins $1 million.
