Best Virginia vs. Zoo Crew in TBT’s Pittsburgh Regional preview

One hundred and ninety times, the men’s basketball teams from West Virginia University and Pitt have faced each other on the court. WVU has won 101 meetings. However, all of those meetings have been played during the college basketball season.

This summer’s new blockbuster is Backyard Brawl, TBT-style.

Best Virginia cruised to a 25-point victory over Brotherly Love in their TBT opener Saturday afternoon. Wesley Harris led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points. Four BV players reached double figures. Teyvon Myers tallied 13 assists, the second-most in a single game in TBT history. The group of former Mountaineers led with a whopping 32 points, making 14 three-pointers and also finishing +14 in rebounding.

Zoo Crew didn’t have it so easy in the TBT opener. The second-seeded Panthers alumni group had to scramble to earn a three-point victory over the seventh-seeded Million $ Worth of Game. Former Pitt forward Mike Young scored 24 points and fellow Pitt alumnus Nike Sibande added 21. As a unit, Zoo Crew shot nearly 60 percent from the floor.

If the opening games of the Pittsburgh Regional between the two teams are any preview of what fans can expect on Monday, expect it to be a high-scoring contest that will see the balls fly back and forth quickly.

Both teams made 14 three-pointers in their TBT opener. Best Virginia made 14 of 39 attempts, while Zoo Crew made 14 of 32 shots from beyond the arc. Five of Zoo Crew’s nine players finished in double figures on Saturday. However, all 10 players scored at least five points for Best Virginia.

Zoo Crew lost in the second half to their opponent in the first round.

Monday’s game will be streamed exclusively on TBT Live. The winner of the rivalry game will face the winner of the top-seeded Stars of Storrs (UConn) and the fifth-seeded Happy Valley Hoopers (Penn State) in Wednesday’s regional title game.

Best Virginia is looking to advance to the regional title for the second time in the last three summers.
