Axmen stay warm at home, Doughboys win in E-Town | WJHL

(WJHL) – Appalachian League teams began a final series Saturday night before Monday’s All-Star break.

In Elizabethton, three runs from the Doughboys in the fifth inning secured a 5-3 away victory.

Kyler Proctor and Braden Spano (Milligan) each hit a two-run home run, while Nate Conner scored the additional RBI for Johnson City.

Owen Slater earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits in 6.0 innings of work. Spencer Powell (UVA-Wise) threw 4.0 solid innings for the River Riders to start the game, retiring five batters and allowing just two runs.

Tennessee’s Dylan Loy stole the show Saturday in Kingsport, throwing 7.0 scoreless innings in the Axmen’s 10-0 shutout of the Ridge Runners.

A trio of Kingsport’s All-Star selections – Mason Swinney, Cal Sefcik and Devan Zirwas – combined for seven RBIs on the night. Jack Torbett (Walters State) also added an RBI in the win.
