Missing 13-year-old dies in Bear Lake

GARDEN CITY — A 13-year-old girl was pronounced dead around 9 p.m. Saturday after she went missing on the east shore of Bear Lake, the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, they received a call around 8 p.m. that she was missing.

“Within minutes, Navy representatives and boats were in the area and began searching,” officials said.

The girl was found, but “despite heroic medical efforts” she was pronounced dead.

“The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences to the family and a sincere thank you to all the first responders and the public who worked to locate this young lady.”

The Sheriff’s Office stressed the importance of wearing life jackets when near water.
