The most dangerous time to drive is between Memorial Day and Labor Day

NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The 100-day period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is considered the deadliest time on the roads here in North Dakota.

According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s 2022 crash summary report, fatal crashes are twice as likely to occur during this time period.

That’s why North Dakota drivers are urging drivers not to fall into a “false sense of security” during the sunny, cheerful days of summer.

According to Travel and Leisure, North Dakota is the state with the most reckless drivers.

There are a number of reasons for this, from drunk driving to speeding. But another reason is that when the snow clears, North Dakota drivers are more likely to get outside and drive faster than they would in the snow, according to the director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division.

And because North Dakota’s fines are among the lowest in the country, ranging from $5 to $100, the Highway Patrol’s safety and public information officer says drivers aren’t given enough deterrents to drive safely.

However, given growing safety concerns, there could be discussion in future legislative sessions about increasing the number of tickets.
