Utah State Mourns Loss of Student-Athlete Saturday Afternoon

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State football player Andre Seldon Jr. was found dead Saturday afternoon after diving off the cliffs of Porcupine Reservoir. He never resurfaced, according to a news release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.

Seldon Jr.’s body was found at 9:05 p.m. by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team.

Seldon Jr. joined the Aggies’ program this summer.

He previously played at New Mexico State and Michigan. Last season at New Mexico State, Seldon had an interception, a forced fumble and seven passes defensed.

Seldon was originally from Belleville, Michigan.

USU is working to ensure that both athletics staff and student-athletes have emotional and mental health support as they process and grieve. Students affected by the death can seek mental and emotional support through the university’s CARE office, and Counseling and Psychological Services offers student support. Athletics staff and student-athletes will receive more information on how to access resources.
