Rory Feek marries his daughter’s teacher

Rory Feek has remarried, eight years after his wife’s death.
The 59-year-old country singer was devastated when his wife and musical partner died of cancer in March 2016. Now, however, he has found happiness again with a woman named Rebecca, who is a teacher to his 10-year-old daughter in Indiana.
In a post on his blog titled “the wedding singer,” Rory revealed that he and Rebecca were married on July 14 “under a beautiful wood-frame pavilion” in Greycliff, Montana, with friends and family gathering at short notice for the festivities.
Although the couple were “determined to stay together,” they didn’t feel like they could “seriously” talk about marriage until Indiana herself suggested it, and Rory was moved to tears when she did.
He wrote: “Although we knew marriage was a possibility, it wasn’t something either of us could seriously discuss. Especially since Indiana had only ever seen Rebecca as ‘Miss Rebecca,’ her schoolteacher and our friend.
“And even though she had become so much more than that to me, I was very cautious about letting Indy ‘figure it out’ for herself. And honestly, I wasn’t sure she ever would be able or willing to do that.
“Her love for her mommy is so great and so big in her life. Neither Rebecca nor I wanted to hurt her in any way. And so we just waited and watched to see if it would ever occur to Indiana that Rebecca could be more than just a friend to her daddy, and to her.
“And then one morning in late March when Rebecca came to the farm to take Indy to school, we all said a little prayer together to start the day, and then they went out the door like they usually do. But a few moments later they came back into the kitchen and Rebecca said, ‘Rory, Indiana just asked me something that I think you need to hear.’
“I asked Indy, and she told me she said, ‘Mrs. Rebecca, I think you should marry Daddy…’
“Of course I was happy, but I was still surprised and told her that we all had to pray for that.
“And then Indy looked at me and said, ‘And I told Miss Rebecca that my mommy’s been gone for a long time. And if she marries you, maybe she can be my new mommy…’
“Needless to say, as I wiped away some tears, I told her I thought it was a great idea. And after more prayer and conversation. We came up with a plan and a date…”
Rory, who has daughters Heidi and Hopie from a previous relationship, surprised his wife at their wedding with a song called ‘I Do’. He shared footage of his performance and the ceremony online.
But Rebecca’s enjoyment of hearing the song was not his favorite part of the day.
He wrote: “And while it was amazing to surprise Rebecca by singing a song I wrote for her at the wedding, I think this moment was by far the best part of the wedding for me and her.
“When Indiana was given the gift of having a mommy in her life again. And Rebecca was given the gift of being a mom. And we became a family.”
