Obituary Laura Linfield – Pleasant Grove, UT (1934-2024)

Laura was born on Valentine’s Day 1934 at home in Culbertson, Nebraska. Her family moved to Inglewood, California when she was three years old. She graduated from Inglewood High School. After graduating from high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Dan Linfield, who had recently returned from serving his country in the Korean Conflict. They settled in Ft. Hood, Texas, where their first son, Don, was born. After Dan’s honorable discharge from the military, they moved back to Inglewood, where they welcomed three more children. They divorced in 1965, and Laura went to work with a fierce determination to provide for her family. Laura worked for TRW in the aerospace industry for 24 years, where she rose from a novice typist to a trusted executive secretary. After TRW, she became an office manager for SAIC in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Laura then moved to Redding, California to pursue her dream of living near Mount Shasta. Then in 2004, she moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, to be near her youngest son, Eric. She lived independently for the last 20 years of her life. Her neighbors became wonderful friends. She enjoyed the many opportunities to socialize and serve others, especially through her volunteer work at American Fork Hospital. Lively, strong, and combative, Laura was well-organized and active with a variety of interests including ikebana flower arranging, reiki healing, gardening, fishing, going to the theater, and bowling. She enjoyed decorating her home. She especially enjoyed staying connected with family and friends. She traveled the world, with highlights including China, Peru, Ireland, Tibet, and Japan. Laura passed away on the morning of April 19, 2024, at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents, George William and Mabel Elizabeth (Klein) Monahan, two brothers, Donald and Everett Monahan, nephew Steve Monahan, and granddaughter Danielle Linfield. She is survived by her children, Don (Joanna) Linfield, Robert (Debbie) Linfield, Denise Linfield, and Eric (Linda) Linfield. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many beloved family members, and her wife’s best friend, Dixie. Her final resting place will be the Pacific Ocean, along with Davy Jones’ locker, off the coast of Southern California. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Laura’s life on Friday, July 26 at 5:30 PM at the Alta Vista Park Community Center, Redondo Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, please take your family out for ice cream and tell them you love them.
