Former Ohio University student convicted of aggravated theft and fraud

ATHENS, OH—Matthew Jeffrey Streeter, 29, a former Ohio University student, was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of aggravated robbery and wire fraud, both third-degree felonies. Sentencing was scheduled for July 17, 2024, in Athens County under Judge Patrick J. Lang.

Streeter, who served as volunteer treasurer for the Delta Upsilon Alumni House Corporation since July 2018, was found guilty of embezzling funds from the organization. During his tenure, he conducted 182 unauthorized transactions, diverting the organization’s funds to his personal use, totaling $179,863.95.

The case was prosecuted by the Athens County District Attorney’s Office, assisted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Forensic Accounting Unit. At trial, the state argued for the maximum sentence of 72 months, while Streeter requested community control. After considering the seriousness of the crime and hearing victim impact statements, Judge Lang imposed a prison sentence and ordered Streeter to repay the embezzled funds. This ruling marks an important conclusion for the affected organization and its members.

  • Man charged with illegally performing C-section on dog

MIAMI, FL—Richard Andino, 39, is facing charges of practicing veterinary medicine without a license after a tragic incident resulted in the death of a litter of puppies. The arrest occurred Monday in Miami, Florida, following a disturbing event on Christmas Eve 2023.

Miami-Dade Police Department officers were alerted by two witnesses who had entrusted their pregnant mixed-breed dog to Andino, believing him to be a licensed veterinarian. According to an affidavit of probable cause, the witnesses were initially misled by Andino’s claims of professional status and his clothing resembling that of a nurse.

The scene unfolded at Andino’s home on SW 121st Avenue, where the witnesses expected to visit an animal hospital. They became skeptical when they realized the setting was a home. Despite their doubts, given the urgent need for a C-section because their dog was in labor, they trusted Andino after he assured them he would take the dog to a hospital for the birth.

Tragically, the procedure resulted in the loss of all the puppies involved. This incident led to Andino’s arrest and he now faces legal consequences for his actions.

  • Virginia man faces multiple charges after drug-impaired crash

SOUTH STAFFORD, VA—A Spotsylvania man was arrested after a series of events that led to multiple charges against him. The incident occurred at 3:14 p.m. on July 18 in the Argyle Heights neighborhood of South Stafford.

Deputies DS Jett and CS Harding of the Stafford Sheriff’s Office were responding to a call of an unknown medical emergency when they discovered 46-year-old Russell McFadden II unresponsive in a black Chevy Impala blocking a resident’s driveway. When McFadden awoke, he was showing signs of drug use and had become increasingly uncooperative and hostile.

Despite being ordered to exit the vehicle, McFadden attempted to flee by pulling out of the driveway, but was blocked by surrounding trees. After a brief attempt to escape, he returned to a state of unresponsive behavior. Officers were forced to break the vehicle’s windows and physically free him, a process that involved McFadden resisting arrest and the use of OC spray.

McFadden was eventually subdued and, due to signs of a possible overdose, was taken by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation. He is charged with driving under the influence, second offense within 5 to 10 years, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of assault on police, obstruction, driving on a suspended license, eluding police and an expired registration.

After a medical examination, McFadden was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held without bail.
