These Are the Most Popular Baby Names in Every State

It’s a land full of Noahs, Theodores, Olivers and Liams.

The Social Security Administration’s most recent data on the most popular baby names in the country clearly showed that these names, plus Olivia, Charlotte, Evelyn and Amelia, are currently the favorites.

It turns out that there’s little variation in popular baby names based on geography, but two names stand out: John and Isla. They’re the only state names that don’t make the top 10 in the country that are ranked No. 1. John comes in at No. 26 and Isla comes in at No. 33. But they reign supreme in two states (Mississippi and Hawaii, respectively).

It’s also worth noting which nationally popular names don’t appear on the state-by-state list. Take James, Mateo, and Lucas, all of which are top 10 baby boy names but not the top name in every state. For girls names, the same story applies to Sophia, Mia, Isabella, and Luna.
