Quarterback and offensive line are the biggest question marks for No. 9 Utah

Utah may have a trump card up its sleeve with the return of seventh-year quarterback Cam Rising in 2024, after Rising missed the entire 2023 season due to injuries. He was selected to the All-Pac-12 Conference in 2021 and was named Pac-12 Championship Game MVP in 2022.

If you’re familiar with Rising’s game (the word kamikaze comes to mind), you understand the inherent risks involved in his return from injury and the impact it has on his ability to run, having rushed for over 400 yards in each of his two seasons as Utah’s regular starter.

That’s why ESPN named the quarterback and offensive line as the two biggest concerns for No. 9 Utah heading into the season.

From ESPN: “It’s way too early to say this is a weakness for the Utes, but the combination of Cam Rising returning after a year away due to injury and an offensive line that lost two of its best players from last year, including its center, could be a question mark heading into the season.”

Utah is in its first year in the Big 12 Conference after moving from the Pac-12, along with Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado. The Utes open the season at home against Southern Utah on Aug. 29.
