3 Arrests in Connection with Death of North Carolina Man Missing Since 2021

SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – Officers in a section of North Carolina report three people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was last seen more than three years ago.

In a Facebook post, Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey said Michael Anthony Bethea Jr., Shelena Carter and LeKeithan Tyson were all arrested Friday and charged in the death of Brandon Carl Wayne McDonald.

Kersey’s post states that McDonald was last seen leaving his home in Claritin in March 2021. He reportedly headed to Laurinburg but was not seen again.

In May, the case was reinvestigated, ultimately leading to Friday’s arrests.

Bethea, Carter and Tyson are all charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and concealing death.

All three are being held in the Scotland County Detention Center and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
