The Kansas City Chiefs have had a turbulent offseason in more ways than one since winning their third Super Bowl in five years. Management is now finalizing the roster as they prepare for their journey to complete their first three straight NFL games.

The team recently announced three roster moves ahead of training camp in an effort to bolster the offense centered around Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs recently announced a trio of roster moves, including the firing of tight end Gerrit Prince and the signing of fellow tight end Izaiah Gathings. They also announced the activation of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Prince joined the Chiefs on the practice squad last summer, but his season was ended early due to a foot injury. He was recently seen at training camp in a walking cast before being released.

Gathings played three practice games for the Chiefs last season, but failed to make the final 53-man roster, was demoted to a practice squad and only released two months ago.

It will be an uphill battle for him to make the final roster again, as there are already so many tight end players on the roster behind Travis Kelce.

Edwards-Helaire’s workload has declined each year since he was drafted in the first round by LSU in 2020. Last season, he averaged 3.2 yards per carry, the lowest mark of his career. But he returns for his fifth season in Kansas City as the backup to Isiah Pacheco.

CEH’s fifth-year option was not taken up this off-season, but he is back on a one-year contract anyway.
