Woman stabbed, nearly thrown over railing at Florida airport: police

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman is in critical condition after she was repeatedly stabbed at Miami International Airport Saturday night, causing chaos in the terminal.

The stabbing took place around 11:33 p.m. on the fourth floor of Terminal J in the international arrivals hall.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, a man stabbed the woman repeatedly and tried to throw her over the railing. The woman was able to escape and ran to the third floor, where officers found her.

Initially, police said they had been alerted to a possible active shooter, which temporarily halted operations at the airport.

“There is absolutely no impact to airport operations and it is being considered an isolated incident,” Miami-Dade Police spokesman Angel Rodriguez said later.

The suspect was arrested at the terminal where the stabbing took place. Police were able to recover the knife believed to have been used in the attack.

A passenger told local news channel WTVJ that she and her family heard what they thought was an argument before chaos broke out.

“We heard the fight escalating and someone said run,” said Dana, a Delta Airlines passenger. “When they said run, we all ran.”

Authorities are trying to determine the relationship between the suspect and the woman. It is unknown what prompted the attack or whether the people involved were travelers.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Additional details were not immediately available.

Operations at the airport have now returned to normal.
