99-year lease for housing project rejected by Buffalo Council – Sheridan Media

A proposed lease of municipal property to developer Housing Solutions, LLC to build a 26-unit residential development has been rejected by the Buffalo City Council.

The lease agreement was discussed at Tuesday night’s meeting after Jerry Spiering, who initiated the idea, and city planner/building inspector Terry Asay spoke in favor of the project, as did those opposed to the project.

Opponents of the project, while understanding the need for affordable housing in Buffalo, cited the project’s location, potential traffic congestion in the area from the development and the 99-year lease on municipal property where the project would be built.

Councilman John Camino said he knows there is a need for affordable housing, but he is not in favor of it. proposal.

Councilman Scott Madsen also opposed the 99-year lease on municipal land. He said the developer has done similar projects in other municipalities, but bought the land they were built on.

The council voted to reject the 99-year lease on the municipal property.
