Phil Murphy will not run for president

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy will not run for the Democratic nomination for president, multiple sources with knowledge of his plans told the New Jersey Globe.

But Murphy could become a potential vice presidential contender, depending on who the final nominee is. The sources said he has already fielded a number of calls from national Democratic leaders discussing the vice presidency.

Murphy considered running for president if Biden initially did not seek re-election. His hopes were dashed when Biden announced his candidacy.

The two-term governor, a former U.S. ambassador to Germany, was chairman of the Democratic National Finance Committee and chairman of the National Governors Association and the Democratic Governors Association.
