Virginia leaders react to Biden not running for re-election

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia leaders have begun posting their reactions after President Joe Biden announced on Sunday afternoon that he will not run for re-election.

Don Scott, Speaker of the Virginia House of Representatives, posted his thoughts about President Biden’s leadership qualities on the social media platform X.


“Thank you, Joe Biden, for your unwavering faith in America. Thank you for your exemplary leadership. At a time when American democracy was being tested, you calmed the country and led us through a devastating crisis and got us back on track. I am deeply grateful to you, sir,” Scott said.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has signed a bill into law different point of viewand even went so far as to call for President Biden’s resignation.

“If Joe Biden believes he is physically unable to serve as president in January ’26, that essentially means he is unable to serve now and must resign. We cannot afford any more weak leadership,” Miyares said in the second part of his statement.
