Biden leaves a legacy of a loser

President Joe Biden has announced he will not seek re-election, cementing his half-century legacy of losing.

Biden’s abysmal presidency will end with a whimper whether or not the Democrats win in November, as Biden was ejected by his party after a debate performance that demonstrated he is simply not physically and mentally fit to serve as president. His approval ratings plummeted in 2021 after his manufactured image of competence and empathy crumbled when he botched the withdrawal from Afghanistan and disrespected Gold Star families. Those numbers haven’t recovered since, and now his party is bluntly telling him to step aside because he will lose.

It’s a perfect end to the career of a mediocre politician like Biden, who lost his first presidential campaign in 1987 after a plagiarism scandal. He was a sideshow in the 2008 presidential campaign, only to be plucked from the Senate by Barack Obama to be his running mate. He faded after a Senate career in which he “got it wrong on almost every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades,” according to Robert Gates, who served as defense secretary in the Obama administration.

If there had been no pandemic, Biden would not be president. If the Iowa Democratic Party had not botched its caucus and given Pete Buttigieg momentum in the 2020 primaries, sending Democrats scrambling to find an alternative to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Biden likely would not even have been the nominee. He blundered into the presidency after a series of blunders in the Senate, then blundered his way through the presidency. His reelection campaign spiraled out of control after he blundered through a debate and nearly the entire Democratic Party told him he would lose the election.

If the Democratic nominee wins in 2024, it will be because that person is not Biden. If the Democratic nominee loses, it will be in large part because Biden clings to power despite it being clear to the country and to his own party that he should only serve one term. Aside from the presidential victory he achieved thanks to the incompetence of his own party and a once-in-a-century pandemic, Biden will be remembered as a loser who spent decades pursuing a presidential dream and then ran his party and the country into the ground when he achieved it.
