East Texas delegates react to Biden’s withdrawal from 2024 presidential race

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Reactions are coming from across the country after President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he will no longer run for a second term.

Biden’s shock announcement follows weeks of speculation about his ability to win the election, which began after the first presidential debate of the year on June 27.

KETK has compiled the following list of responses from East Texas representatives and other current and former officials:

“This changes nothing. Whoever comes next for the Democrats will embrace the same failed Biden policies,” said Nathaniel Moran, U.S. House Representative for Tyler. “Let’s keep sending the right messages: (1) secure our borders (2) cut spending, debt and regulation (3) free up our energy sector (4) show strength in the world.”

“Blue privilege. Democratic elites sent ordinary Democratic voters to the kids’ table so a handful of donors and insiders could decide who they wanted to lead the party,” said Texas House Representative Matt Schaefer, from Tyler.

“If President Biden is not fit to run, he is not fit to lead. He should resign immediately,” said U.S. Congressman for Mineola, Athens and Terrell, Lance Gooden.

“If Democrats think trading Biden for their failed Border Czar will change anything, they are dreaming. Under her ‘leadership,’ criminals and terrorists continue to pour across our wide-open border and fentanyl continues to kill thousands of innocent Americans. If she can’t fix the border, how will she run the country? Kamala Harris is even more radical, more extreme, and less competent than Joe Biden. And if Pres. Biden is not competent to run for re-election, he should resign as President,” said U.S. Senator from Texas John Cornyn.

“It increasingly appears that that early debate was a setup to force Biden to step aside. Today’s announcement might not have happened without that disastrous debate,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to be president, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was! He only got to be president through lies, fake news, and not leaving his basement. Everyone around him, including his doctor and the media, knew he was not fit to be president, and he wasn’t – And now look at what he has done to our country, with millions of people crossing our borders, completely unchecked and uncontrolled, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will repair the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
