Liverpool defeated Real Betis 1-0 on Friday in Arne Slot’s first official friendly played by head coach John F. Kennedy. A first-half goal from Dominik Szoboszlai kicked off the club’s U.S. pre-season tour with a win.

The Hungarian international exchanged a fine one-two with Mohamed Salah in the 34th minute, before placing a shot into the far corner.

Slot used the game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to see as many players from his team travel as possible. A total of 23 players took the field at Acrisure Stadium.

Trey Nyoni came on as a first-half substitute for Curtis Jones after the England midfielder picked up an injury, which was the only concern of the game for the new head coach.

The 17-year-old Nyoni impressed in his substitution and played a part in the build-up to the decisive goal, while Ben Doak and Connor Bradley also shone.

Liverpool take on Arsenal in Philadelphia on Wednesday and conclude their US tour on Saturday against Manchester United in South Carolina.
