North Carolina unemployment claims fell last week

The number of jobless claims in North Carolina fell last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.

The number of new applications for unemployment benefits, a proxy for layoffs, fell to 3,188 in the week ended July 20, from 3,633 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. jobless claims fell to 235,000 last week, down 10,000 from 245,000 claims the previous week, after seasonal adjustment.

Texas saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing by 24.9%. Kansas, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decrease in new claims, with claims dropping by 68.7%.
