World records in women’s 400m hurdles, women’s 1500m and men’s pole vault ratified in time for the Olympics on Cricketnmore

Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational: With just days to go before the start of track and field competitions at the Paris Olympics, World Athletics, the governing body for track and field competitions, has ratified several world records set over the past seven months. These records include Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s women’s 400m hurdles record, Faith Kipyegon’s women’s 1500m record, Mondo Duplantis’ pole vault world record and Mykolas Alekna’s men’s discus record.

On this occasion, the world record for the 5 km (women only) of Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, the world record for the 5 km (mixed) of women and the record for the 10 m (mixed) of Agnes Jebet Ngetich of Kenya were also ratified.

Chebet ended her 2023 season in memorable fashion on December 31, winning the 5 km road race in Barcelona in 14:13. The cross-country world champion shaved 16 seconds off the women’s world record set by Senbere Teferi in Herzogenaurach on September 12, 2021.

Two weeks later in Valencia, Chebet’s compatriot Agnes Jebet Ngetich produced a similarly stunning performance on the road, clocking a 10km mixed race time of 28:46. Her halfway split of 14:13 was also a world record.

Ngetich improved her previous world record in the 10 km, set by Yalemzerf Yehualaw in Castellon on February 27, 2022, by 28 seconds. Her 5 km record was a six-second improvement on the world record of Ejgayehu Taye, set in Barcelona on December 31, 2021, World Athletics said on Saturday.

Mykolas Alekna turned heads at the start of the outdoor season earlier this year when he threw 74.35m to win the discus at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational in Ramona, breaking the long-standing world record set by Jurgen Schult of East Germany on June 6, 1986.

Just six days later, another world record was broken on the men’s field, this time by Mondo Duplantis. The world and Olympic champion won the pole vault at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China, by clearing 6.24 m, adding a centimeter to the record he set last year at the Diamond League final in Eugene.

At the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a world record in the 400-meter hurdles in 50.65 seconds, improving her record by 0.03 seconds from the record she set when she won the world title on July 22, 2022. It was her fifth world record in the discipline and her fourth set at Eugene’s Hayward Field.
