The People’s Guide: Election Year Edition | Stories | July 30, 2024

The People’s Guide Election Year Edition is your one-stop-shop for all the information you need to make good decisions this election year!

Unveiled on June 27, 2024, The guide of the people was created through a partnership between Michigan PBS station WGVU, the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies, and the Padnos/Sarosik Center for Discourse. The goal of the partnership was to create a website to help voters navigate the misinformation and disinformation leading up to the November presidential election by providing them with resources they can trust to make their choices with the best information available.

In addition to tools to help people register to vote and learn more about upcoming ballots, the site also offers guides on spotting misinformation, media bias, and the importance of consuming news across multiple channels.

The content focuses on information gathering, civil debate, voter registration, and election integrity. The content consists of the following components:

  • Can I trust social media?
  • Debate facts
  • How can I recognize misinformation?
  • How can I recognize prejudices?
  • What’s on the ballot?
  • How are voting systems secured?
  • How to watch a debate
  • Absentee voting
  • Where can you find news?
  • How do I become news literate?
  • Why should I vote?
  • Am I registered?
  • Digging through the information
