Texas residents have about a month of sweltering summer temperatures left until fall, and it doesn’t look like it will bring much relief to the state.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac recently released its fall temperature and rainfall forecasts for the U.S. The more than 200-year-old publication predicts a “warmer than normal fall” for much of the country this year.

So what does this mean for Texas in the fall months? Here’s what you need to know:

Fall Temperature Forecast in Texas

According to the Almanac, temperatures in Texas will be above average this fall.

The Lone Star State is expected to have above average temperatures, along with most of the central and western parts of the country. Other states include:

  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Kansas
  • Missouri
  • Iowa
  • Nebraska
  • North Dakota
  • south dakota
  • New Mexico
  • Colorado
  • Wyoming
  • Montana
  • Idaho
  • Arizona
  • Utah
  • Nevada
  • California
  • Oregon
  • Washington

What do “above average” temperatures mean for Texas?

Although above normal seems extreme, it means exactly what it means over a period of time.

For example, the normal high temperature in August in North Texas is 95.8 degrees annually. If there is an “above normal” forecast, that could mean just a few degrees higher, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOA) three-month Climate Prediction Center forecast, which runs through October, shows similar “above normal” temperatures for the fall.

The summer heat continues in North Texas this week, with temperatures nearing 100 degrees Fahrenheit every day.

The Panhandle and El Paso regions are below average, while the rest of Texas is expected to have above average rainfall.

In the rest of the country, less rain than average is expected, especially in the Midwest and the north of the country.

According to the Almanac, above-average precipitation is expected on both the west and east coasts this fall.
