NYCHA: 200,000 NYC Households Selected for Section 8 Voucher Program

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Thousands of low-income families in New York City have won the top prize in a new lottery that gives them the chance to secure affordable housing.

On Thursday, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced that 200,000 households have been randomly selected via lottery for the city’s new waiting list for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV). Section 8 HCV is a federally funded program administered by NYCHA that provides rent subsidies to low-income families to rent apartments on the private market.
