DaisyDisk is a system cleanup tool that helps you understand disk usage and easily identify files taking up disk space. It is very user-friendly (better than Tencent Lemon). You can select a drive to see which areas are taking up the most space. Since my MacBook only has 256 GB of storage space, this app is very useful for me. I always thought macOS would manage my hard drive well, but one day I got a message saying my drive was full and couldn’t download files. After checking with DaisyDisk, I found that temporary system files (root -> hidden space -> erasable space) took up fifty to sixty GB. After I cleaned it, I was able to use it again — what a surprise!

In scenarios where screen recording is required, it is essential to display and record the current keystrokes. KeyCastr is an excellent key display software. The first time you use it, you need to enable the system accessibility features. Once you configure it and reopen it, you can see the current keystrokes in the bottom left corner of the screen and you can drag the display panel around. KeyCastr is open-source and free, available for download on GitHub Release.

There is also free cleanup software available, which works well if there are not too many duplicate files. I recommend using Gemini because it crashed several times during one of my large file cleanups (over 2GB). After switching to Gemini it worked perfectly. Not to mention, I had two duplicate files: one was 1(1).txt and the other was 1.txt. The cleanup software surprisingly deleted 1.txt and kept the other, which was a bit confusing.

It also allows you to edit documents remotely in real time without having to download them. Additionally, Transmit’s tab system allows for multiple simultaneous connections. One disadvantage is that the synchronization is not very real-time; you may have to wait a few seconds or refresh manually, but it’s still bearable.
